2. What This Policy Covers
This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information when you visit our website (detgaao.com), use our services, or interact with us in any capacity. This policy applies to all services offered by DETGAAO, including consulting engagements, freelance project work, and any software products we develop or operate.
3. Information We Collect
Information You Provide Directly
When you contact us, engage our services, or use our website, you may provide:
- Name, email address, phone number, and business title
- Company name and business information
- Project details, briefs, and business requirements
- Payment and billing information (processed by third-party payment providers, not stored by us)
- Any other information you choose to share in communications with us
Information Collected Automatically: Our Server Log
Every request to this website is recorded on our own server, before the page reaches you. This happens for every visitor. It uses no cookies and does not depend on your answer to the cookie banner, so the banner cannot switch it off. Each record holds:
- Your full IP address
- Your browser’s full identification string, plus the device type, operating system family and browser family we read from it
- Your approximate location as our hosting provider reports it: country, region, city, postal code, timezone, and the latitude and longitude of that city. Those coordinates describe the city, not your device. They are not a GPS reading.
- The page you asked for, the domain you asked it from, the request method, and the language version we served you
- The full web address of the page that linked you here, including anything after the question mark in it
- Two identifiers calculated from your network address and your browser: one that stays the same for you from visit to visit, and one that changes every day
- Whether the request looks like automated software rather than a person
We keep this log because analytics that run inside your browser cannot see visitors who block them, decline them, or are search engine crawlers, and in Switzerland and the EU that is most visitors. It is how we know whether anyone reached the site at all.
This log holds personal data. It is not anonymized and it is not aggregated. The identifier that stays the same from visit to visit means separate visits by the same person can be linked to each other. Your IP address and that full referring address are cleared from the log after 30 days, and the whole record is deleted after 18 months (see Section 7). You can ask us to delete your records sooner at any time (see Section 9).
Information Collected Automatically: Analytics in Your Browser
Separately, we use Google Analytics, which runs in your browser and sets cookies. In Switzerland, the EEA and the UK it stays switched off until you accept it in the cookie banner. Elsewhere it runs unless you decline. It records the pages you visit, how long you stay, your approximate location, your device and browser, and the site that referred you.
Cookies and Similar Technologies
We set two cookies of our own. One remembers whether you accepted or declined analytics, so we do not ask you again. The other records whether your request came from a country where we must ask before switching analytics on. Google Analytics sets its own cookies once you accept it. You can control cookie preferences through your browser settings. We do not use cookies for advertising or for tracking you across third-party websites.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Respond to inquiries and communicate with you about potential or active engagements
- Deliver consulting, freelance, and software services
- Process payments and manage billing
- Improve our website, services, and user experience
- Comply with legal obligations
- Protect against fraud, unauthorized access, and other security concerns
We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for automated decision-making or profiling.
5. How We Share Your Information
We may share your information with:
- Service providers who help us operate our business (hosting, email, analytics, payment processing). These providers are contractually required to protect your data and use it only for the services they perform on our behalf.
- Professional advisors such as attorneys, accountants, or auditors when necessary for business operations.
- Legal authorities when required by law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request.
- Business transfers in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you of any such change.
We do not share client project details, business strategies, or confidential engagement information with any third party unless explicitly authorized by you.
6. Third-Party Services
Our website and operations may use the following categories of third-party services:
- Website hosting and deployment (e.g., Vercel, GitHub)
- Analytics (Google Analytics and Google Tag Manager)
- Website request logging (Supabase, which hosts the database our server log is written to)
- Transactional email (Resend, which delivers form notifications and confirmation emails)
- Google preferred sources— the “add as preferred source” button under our Signal articles. Nothing loads from Google for it until you move the pointer onto that button, and nothing about you is sent to us if you use it.
- Email and communication (e.g., Google Workspace)
- Payment processing (e.g., Stripe)
- Customer relationship management (e.g., HubSpot)
Each of these providers has their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review their policies.
7. Data Retention
We retain your personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy, maintain our business records, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Specifically:
- Inquiry and contact data: Retained for up to 24 months after your last communication with us, unless an engagement begins.
- Client engagement data: Retained for the duration of the engagement plus 36 months, or longer if required by law or contractual obligations.
- Server log records: Deleted after 18 months. Your IP address and the full address of the page that linked you here are cleared from those records after 30 days, which leaves the record without either of the two fields that identify you most directly.
- Google Analytics data: Retained for no longer than 14 months, the maximum our Google Analytics plan allows, after which Google deletes it.
- Payment records: Retained as required by applicable tax and financial regulations.
You may request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 9).
8. Data Security
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include encrypted communications (HTTPS), secure access controls, and regular review of our data handling practices.
No method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
- Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information.
- Deletion: Request deletion of your personal information, subject to legal retention requirements.
- Portability: Request a copy of your data in a commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Objection: Object to certain processing of your personal information.
- Withdraw consent: Where processing is based on consent, withdraw that consent at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@detgaao.com. We will respond within 30 days of receiving your request.
For California Residents (CCPA)
If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to request deletion, and the right to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
For European Economic Area and Swiss Residents (GDPR / Swiss DSG)
If you are located in the EEA or Switzerland, we process your personal information based on one or more of the following legal bases: your consent, performance of a contract, compliance with a legal obligation, or our legitimate business interests. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
10. International Data Transfers
DETGAAO is based in the United States. If you are accessing our website or services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States. By using our services, you acknowledge this transfer. We take reasonable steps to ensure your data is treated securely and in accordance with this policy.
11. Children
Our services are not directed at individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we become aware that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will take steps to delete that information.
12. Links to Other Websites
Our website may contain links to third-party websites or services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those websites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any website you visit.
13. Software Products
If we develop and offer software products or services (whether under the DETGAAO name or a sub-brand), each product may have its own privacy policy with specific terms related to that product’s data collection and processing. In the event of a conflict between this policy and a product-specific privacy policy, the product-specific policy will govern for that product.
14. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated “Last Updated” date. If we make material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you (for example, by posting a notice on our website or sending an email to clients with active engagements).
Your continued use of our website or services after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
